Building the Beaches Cultural Community

I always aspired to be an artist and live by the sea with lots of
pets. For the last twenty years I have shared a little hideaway in
the swamp, with countless creatures wild and tame. The ocean is
just across the road. My happiest hours are spent outside,
listening to birds and playing with paint. My craft is a form of
recycling. Always on the lookout for potential treasures, I haunt
thrift stores, rummage sales, and roadsides. I also do custom work
for those who trust me to transform their own pieces.
After cleaning, repairing, sanding, and priming, the fun begins.
My imagination takes over, inspired by dreams, music, mythology,
and the magic of Mother Nature. The forms of the pieces
themselves seem to call for particular designs. They each have a
story to tell. Some bloom with gardens or awaken as animals.
Others lend themselves to the motifs of ancient cultures. I
inevitably get swept away seeing my subjects come to life. The
result is a one-of-a-kind creation meant for a special person.
When that person comes along and carts it off to its new home, I
feel almost like a proud parent. Therein lies the real reward.
