Kathy Goldstein

– Avant-garde is probably the best description, at least one that can be
printed.  Many friends have more than once walked away shaking their
heads.
Kathy was born in Colorado, grew up in St. Augustine and eventually
migrated back to Northeast Florida and the Jacksonville Beach area from
Connecticut.  An avid fisherman, Kathy has also raised and showed
purebred dogs in Florida and Connecticut.  Born in the year of the
Dragon, (do you see a trend here with the selection of whimsical pets),
she was lured by the lull of the wheel at Atlantic Pottery Supply to unleash
a creative spirit.  Who are we kidding?  She went to get as dirty as
possible in the shortest amount of time.  What evolved was a mix of form,
function and whimsy, with the underlying mud in her hair, her clothes and
under her fingernails.  “How can you throw pots with those nails?”
After gaining a tentative understanding and fairly friendly relationship with
the potter’s wheel, Kathy began exploring different methods of firing the
finished products.  Terms like high fire, reduction, soda fired and raku all
tweaked the curiosity.  And of course, all had to be tried and tested.  What
she displays is a mix of these firings.
